Anita and Bill Beacon Hill Photography Session

Beacon Hill Pre Wedding Session Flavio D Photography

I met up with Anita and Bill on November 4th for a pre-wedding photo shoot at Beacon Hill in Boston, MA.

Even though this photo shoot looks like a wedding photography session, it actually wasn’t. Anita had asked me to do this session this way because she was pregnant, and they wanted to do a photo shoot before she started to show! They also wanted to incorporate the city of Boston into their photography shoot. So, we met up and wandered around Beacon Hill, getting both the beautiful city and the beautiful bride in full focus!

Beacon Hill Pre-Wedding Photography Session

Anita and Bill actually got married a few weeks later when they eloped in Hawaii, but they wanted to have their photography reflect something a little closer to home. Our Beacon Hill photography session was a wonderful way for them to capture the look and feel of Boston in the fall. Bill donned a suit and Anita wore a stunning Pronovias gown, and now they have the gorgeous late autumn shots from their pre-wedding shoot to contrast with their tropical elopement. The best of both worlds, right?

Beacon Hill is a neighborhood infused with Boston style. Its narrow, gas lit streets and brick sidewalks provided the perfect backdrop to capture that Boston feeling in their photography. I loved how the turning leaves and the classic federal style townhouses gave these images a positively New England vibe. And that couldn’t be better for Anita and Bill. They are truly the type of people you’ll meet once and never forget.

Bill & Anita, thank you for asking me to do this pre-wedding shoot for you. I loved getting to know you, and I know that you are going to be such amazing parents when you get to meet Baby Callagy and become a family of three!

Melody & Bruce – Roger Williams Botanical Center Wedding

Roger Williams Botanical Center Wedding Flavio D Photography

Melody and Bruce were married on August 11th, with a ceremony and reception at the Roger Williams Botanical Center in Providence, Rhode Island.

Both Bruce and Melody are intelligent, accomplished, goal-driven people who work in the field of education. Bruce recently started school at Harvard! And I couldn’t have asked for a bride who was more fun to be around than Melody. She is constantly joking around with everyone around her, which brought a fun spirit to this wedding.

In fact, at one point during the first dance, the music stopped, and Melody and Bruce took it all in stride. They even made a joke out of it! This is exactly what I’d expect from the two of them; they are just too much fun to let anything slow them down.

With that said, these two also knew how to get serious. My favorite moment of the day was directly after the ceremony, when they got a few minutes alone together in the rose garden to celebrate being husband and wife. Bruce kissed Melody on the head while he was embracing her. As a fine-art wedding photographer, it’s the organic, pure moments like these that make my job a joy.

As far as Providence wedding venues go, the Roger Williams Botanical Center is amazing for wedding photography. As the largest public indoor display garden in New England, it has multiple greenhouses filled with over 150 species of exotic plants, some animals, and a koi pond. I was never at a loss for something interesting to photograph!
We were also lucky enough to be asked to shoot the video, which can be viewed below.

Thank you, Melody & Bruce, for asking me to be your fine-art wedding photographer. Thanks also to everyone in the wedding party, from best man Sidney and maid of honor Samantha to Jennifer, Brittany, Gina, and Linet—you were so much fun to be around! Thanks also to my second shooter, Kathryn Okane.

Clarese & Andrew Grafton Inn Wedding

Grafton Inn Wedding Flavio Debarros Photography

Clarese and Andrew were married on September 16th, with a ceremony and reception at the Grafton Inn in Grafton, Vermont.

I spent most of my time prior to the ceremony with Clarese and her bridesmaids and bridesman, while my second shooter, Kathryn O’Kane, was with Andrew and his groomsmen. I did check in with Andrew quickly before the ceremony, too.

Some of my favorite images came from that “getting ready” period, like the moment I caught Clarese staring at her dress. It was obvious she was lost in the excitement of emotions of the day. I also loved the image of the bridal party helping Clarese get ready. All hands on deck!

Once Clarese and Andrew were ready, it was time for the ceremony. The Grafton Inn had done an amazing job decorating the hallways with swag specific to these two—it had a sort of rustic elegance, especially in the garden. The flowers and floral headpiece worn by the bride were beautiful as well; the entire effect felt nothing short of magical.

Of course, no wedding is complete without a few guests of honor. The wedding was officiated by Richard McGonagle, a Hollywood film, video game, and TV actor. And the other guest of honor was the co-ring bearer—their dog. I always love when a couple includes their pets in the ceremony, and their dog looked amazing in a floral crown to match Clarese.

After the ceremony, Clarese and Andrew were able to party the night away with their friends and family. At one point, the bride and her maid of honor danced to their favorite song from their childhood—which ended up being my favorite moment of the whole night.

Of course, for as much activity as there can always be during a wedding, it’s those quiet moments that mean the most. The bride and groom were able to find a private moment away from the reception that turned out to be another one of my favorite images of the day. There’s something so special when a new husband and wife can take a moment and simply enjoy a moment alone.

Clarese & Andrew, thank you for giving me the honor of being your wedding photographer. I wish every wedding experience was like yours: classy people, a rustic location, and a stunning couple.

Katherine & Jose the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle Wedding

Katherine and Jose were married on November 19th, with a ceremony at the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle and a reception at the St. Regis in Washington, DC.

Katherine and Jose’s Washington DC Wedding

I spent all my time before the ceremony with Katherine while my second shooter, Yuri, was with Jose. I was so glad I got to spent that time with her, too, because some of my favorite images are from that “getting ready” time. I love the image of Katherine sitting on the red couch laughing with one of her bridesmaids. It’s a snapshot of pure joy. I also love the image of her in the horse and carriage with her ring-bearer—it’s another moment of togetherness in a wedding full of honest affection.

Probably the most memorable moment of the whole day was when Katherine’s mom helped her into her dress. I could see the two of them have an extra special bond, and when I look back on this wedding, that moment still stands out to me.

I can’t say enough wonderful things about the cathedral the wedding ceremony was held in, either. The Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle was by far the nicest church I’ve ever shot in. I couldn’t get over the grandeur and the beauty of it. From the majestic high ceilings adorned with carvings and murals to the red carpet of the aisle, this cathedral was timeless– like a moment carved out of history. When Katherine walked down the aisle, she looked like royalty. As a photographer, I often get to explore new places and new venues, and this is one church that I’m not going to forget.

So many people came together to make this wedding memorable, including the day-of wedding coordinator, MeSoiree LLC. They did an amazing job making sure everything went smoothly. The St. Regis hotel was amazing as well—and provided my favorite moment of the whole day in a ceremonial champagne bottle opening. The guy used a sword to open the bottle.

Jose & Katherine, I don’t know what it is about the two of you that makes me feel like I got to work for a celebrity couple, but somehow, you made even crossing the street feel like a glamor shot! Whatever that ‘something’ is, I know it’ll take you far in life.

Maia & Sidney Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya Wedding

hard rock hotel riviera maya flavio d photography

Maia and Sidney were married on July 2nd, with a ceremony and reception at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya in Mexico.

I had been excited about this wedding ever since Sidney proposed to Maia. He had the most amazing Paris proposal planned out, and he brought me along to cover it. I was so impressed by these two and their love story as I covered that proposal, and I’ve been looking forward to this new chapter in their lives.

Of course, this wedding was also special for me on a personal level. Maia is my cousin, and she’s been supportive of me and my career since the beginning. She always said that I would get to shoot her wedding someday—and now that day had come!

Riviera Maya Destination Wedding

Almost all of Maia’s and Sidney’s family members flew down to Mexico to be there for this happy occasion. It was great to be around this huge crowd—it turned into a week-long party with everyone gathered together like that.

On the day of the wedding itself, I went back and forth between Maia’s and Sidney’s hotel suites, since I was shooting the wedding entirely on my own. But even with how busy I was, I made sure to take the time to get pictures of Maia in her dress. She had retrofitted her mother’s dress to wear for the wedding, which was especially important to her because her mother, Djidji, had passed away years ago, and she wanted to have a tribute to her in the wedding. At one point, I was even able to snap an image of Maia holding a picture of her mother on her own wedding day wearing that same dress.

Of course, my personal favorite moment was when the cigar makers came out. They rolled personal cigars for everyone, and I got a great shot of Sidney puffing on the cigar.I was definitely a unique touch.

Maia & Sidney, it was an honor to photograph your wedding. Thank you for being some of my biggest fans since day one.
